Luz Saúde and the Portuguese Rugby Federation (FPR) signed, on March 13, a protocol establishing Hospital da Luz as the official medical provider of the national teams in this modality, for the 2023/2024 season . These teams will now count with the clinical assistance of the Sports Medicine Centre at Hospital da Luz Lisboa and respective professionals, specialized in the follow-up of high-level athletes, with access to a wide range of medical services, from consultations and complementary diagnostic exams to urgencies and permanent care. “In a year of World Championship, and with all the other international competitions we participate in, it is extremely important for us to be able to count with medical services of excellence for our players , thus ensuring that they are up to the physical demands of the modality and in their best condition”, stressed Carlos Amado da Silva, the president of FPR, during the signing ceremony of the agreement. “This protocol consolidates the good relationship existing between Hospital da Luz and national rugby”, he added. On behalf of Luz Saúde, the administrator Tomás Branquinho da Fonseca expressed “the pride” of the group in this association with the Portuguese Rugby Federation, “thus contributing to the development of the modality”. “Our clinical teams, highly differentiated in Sports Medicine, will offer all the support to the national team players, thus ensuring their good physical condition”, he further added. “ Through our network of hospitals and our specialists in sports medicine, we have been working consistently with many high-performance athletes and we are increasingly committed in turning this area of healthcare providing a priority”, he proceeded, highlighting that this new partnership “is an opportunity to contribute to the quality and safety of national sports practise, regardless of the modality and competitive level of teams and practitioners”. It should be noted that the 15 th Portuguese Rugby National Team plays next Sunday, March 19, against Georgia, the Rugby Europe Championship 2023 final, one of the major European titles. The match will take place at Estadio Nuevo Vivero, in Badajoz, Spain.
