The SysVent OM1 is an entirely Portuguese ventilator, conceived in record time by a team of national physicians and engineers and destined to be used in hospital intensive care. Developed by SYSAdvance, the only Portuguese company certified in Portugal for medical devices of Class IIb – Life Support, the SysVent OM1 was created with the collaboration of specialists in Intensive Medicine from Hospital da Luz Arrábida (HLA), António H. Carneiro, Nuno Cortesão and Marco Fernandes, by invitation of the Portuguese Association of Doctors. On Monday, July 27, the three HLA specialists were present in the ceremony organized by the Portuguese Association of Doctors (Regional North Section) to publicly introduce the SYSAdvance ventilator, and gave testimony of their involvement in this important project. “These devices were not developed in Portugal, therefore I had never been involved in the creation of this sort of equipment”, stated, on the occasion, the intensivist and clinical director of HLA, adding further: “What we did was to specify, in the capacity of intensivists, the needs of our most complex patients. After the first adjustments, the engineers responded with a device that fulfils all that we deem to be essential”. With the possibility of being remotely controlled, the SysVent OM1 allows to administer and control the mixture of oxygen through pressure and volume, favouring a safe, efficient and rather complete management of the different factors involved in the providing of intensive care to patients. In the course of this year, and once concluded the process of certification by the official authorities, several of these ventilators will be distributed by the Portuguese hospitals.
