Manuel Caldas de Almeida, clinical director, and Helena Bárrios, assistant clinical director at Hospital do Mar are co-authors of the book «Tudo muda num instante – cuidar de nós e dos nossos», edited in October 29. In an accessible manner of writing, the book intends to help find solutions for avoiding the anguishes, fears and solitude inherent to the process of aging, inciting readers to develop behaviours towards the safeguarding of individual competences, for a healthy autonomy in more advanced ages. The book starts from the authors’ professional experience and tries to find answers to questions such as how to take care of elderly people, how to conciliate the task of informal caregiver with personal and professional life, how to deal with the circumstance of living longer and with more illnesses or how to identify when a chronic disease, typical of aging, enters a more advanced phase. Besides Manuel Caldas de Almeida and Helena Bárrios, are also co-authors the paediatrician and ex-Minister of Health Ana Jorge, psychiatrist António Leuschner, rehabilitation specialist nurse Júlio Veríssimo and ex-journalist Cláudia Borges.
