After a three-year gap due to the COVID-19 pandemics, the running event Corrida do Benfica – António Leitão returned in the first weekend of April, this 15 th edition counting once again with the clinical assistance of Hospital da Luz, Sport Lisboa e Benfica’s official medical service provider since 2013. The event counted with the presence of around 8,500 participants, along the 10 km running and the 5 km walking (Fun Run) tracks. Hospital da Luz ensured the clinical assistance to the event, through a medical centre fully equipped to respond quickly to the needs of the participants, integrating 2 doctors and 7 nurses, supported by a fire brigade of 13 men, 5 ambulances, an emergency vehicle and 4 rapid-response quad bikes. In the general classification, the main running event (10 km) was won by André Pereira (in the senior men category), SL Benfica’s athlete, who crossed the finish line with 29 minutes and 52 seconds. On its turn, Dulce Félix (above, in the photo), also Benfica’s athlete, was the winner in the senior women category, with 35 minutes and 52 seconds. This year, nearly 300 collaborators from several units of Luz Saúde group participated in the events, both the 10 km running and the 5 km walking. The day before, Saturday, took place the Corrida da Pequenada, this year much participated. Inside the Benfica’s Stadium, about 1,440 children and youths, from 3 to 17 years-old (boys and girls), participated with enthusiasm in their series. Rui Costa, the SL Benfica president, was present and gave the starting signal for the young athletes who run the different distances around the pitch, grouped in their respective categories: mini águias (360 meters), águias traquinas (360 meters), benjamins (600 meters), infantis (750 meters), iniciados (1,000 meters) and juvenis (1,500 meters). Among them were about 100 children and youths, whose parents are Luz Saúde collaborators. The clinical assistance was ensured by a physician and a nurse from Hospital da Luz.
